Finalists: Colin Day and Phill Barlow

On Sunday 9th August 10 ladies and 15 men fought for the titles of Ladies and Men’s singles champion. The day was very hot and both greens were running fast. In a change to tradition, the men played their matches on Nottingham green and the ladies on Derby green. We also introduced a handicap system for the first time to make it fairer for newer club members to take part.

After a preliminary round for some entrants, in order to get to the correct numbers for the final stages, the quarter finals took place before lunch. This gave us the following semi-finalists :

Men: Colin Day, Peter Lloyd, Mike Parry and Phill Barlow

Ladies: Sue Law, Pam Harrison, Ali Barlow and Elaine Gilmour.

After a break for lunch the semi-finals commenced.

Men: Colin beat Peter 15-12 and Phill beat Mike 15-13

Ladies: Sue beat Pam 15-6 and Ali beat Elaine 15-12

In the finals Phill beat Colin 21-20 and Ali beat Sue 21-18. Both were hard fought matches on tricky greens and Phill and Ali worked hard to earn their victories making it a great day for the Barlow family.

LADIES’ AND GENTLEMEN’S SINGLES CUP COMPETITIONS

The Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Singles Cup competitions took place on Sunday, 13 July, 2025, and despite the worries of the excessive heat we’ve been experiencing recently spoiling the day, Mother Nature decided to reign in the heat and provide us with a lovely day.

Twelve gents and eleven ladies threw their hats into the arena for a chance of winning their respective competitions.

In the ladies’ competition the preliminary rounds gave us semi finalists Sarah Graves and Audrey Parry and Alison Barlow and Jane Cooper, but it was Audrey and Alison who made it through to the final, and ultimately Audrey who took the title this year 21:19 in a very well contended final.

In the gents’ competition the preliminary rounds gave us semi-finalists Ciaran Guilfoyle and Phill Barlow and Andy Wilson and Duncan Clarke but it was Ciaran and Andy who made it through to the final, and ultimately Ciaran who took the title this year in a closely fought match 21:20.

The winners were awarded their respective trophies.

Congratulations to all.

As always Leah Hall did an amazing job organising the day’s refreshments and, Ian Gutteridge, donning his trade mark apron, did an amazing job on the barbecue. A huge thanks to everyone involved in organising the day.
