Open Doubles Trophy 23rd August 2026

On a gloriously sunny August Sunday nine doubles partnerships met to contest the Open Doubles Cup.  A preliminary round was held to reduce the number to 8 partnerships and then all teams were on the greens for the first round.  This round produced our semi-finalists and the competition paused for lunch.

After lunch the semi-finals commenced.  Andy Wilson and Mike Oldbury beat Martin Smith and Paul Traynor 15-11 and Sue Law and Peter Lloyd beat Dave Pidgeon and Mike Parry 15-6.

The final was initially a close match but soon Andy and Mike began to pull away and in the end they beat Sue and Peter 21-10 to win the competition.

The trophy was presented by Bill Grant to the winners Andy and Mike.

Once again, many thanks to Leah and Audrey who provided the catering with hot cobs, fruit crumbles and fruit salads to sustain everyone throughout the day.

Thanks also to everyone who stayed until the end to support the players and all those who marked, measured and kept the players supplied with water throughout the games.
