LADIES’ AND GENTLEMEN’S DOUBLES CUP COMPETITIONS 2025

The Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Doubles Cup competitions took place on Sunday, 15 June, 2025, and yet again the weather turned up trumps in full support of the occasion.

The event was well supported with 17 gents and 14 ladies contending in their respective competitions.  It was a lovely busy day at the club with some great matches.

In the ladies’ competition the preliminary round gave us semi finalists Pam Harrison and Audrey Parry against Alison Barlow and Elaine Gilmour, and Nicola Clarke and Lesley Wilson against Enid Walker and Lynda Smith, but it was Pam and Audrey and Nicola and Lesley who made it through to the final, and ultimately Pam and Audrey who took the title this year 21:10.

In the gents’ competition the preliminary rounds gave us semi finalists Craig Harrison and Duncan Clarke against Andy Wilson and Mike Heeley and Ian Schwermer and John Illingworth against Martin Smith and Colin Elliot, but it was Andy and Mike and Ian and John who made it through to the final, and ultimately Ian and John who took the title this year in a closely fought match 21:19.

The winners were awarded their respective trophies.  Congratulations to all.

As always Leah Hall did an amazing job organising the day’s refreshments and, Ian Gutteridge, donning his trade mark apron, did an amazing job on the barbecue.  A few lines in this report aren’t really sufficient to express everyone’s appreciation but I’m sure everyone extends a huge thanks to both.

Another great competition day at the Club.

The next competitions are on Sunday, 13 July, when we will be running the Ladies’ Singles Cup and the Men’s Singles Cup side by side.  Ladies will be bowling on the Nottingham Green and the gents on the Derby Green if you want to get some practice in before the big day.   The competitions are open to all abilities with the Ladies’ Singles Cup and the Men’s Singles Cup being the prizes together with £10 for each of the winners and £5 for each of the runners up.  A list will be put on the notice board in the Club Room in the coming days for you to add your name if you would like to enter.

Happy Bowling!
